OneSearch: Using the Library Catalog

Use the library catalog to find books, eBooks, articles, films and more!

Performing an Advanced Search

If you would like to refine your search from the beginning (rather than filtering results at the end), you may choose to implement an Advanced Search. To begin an Advanced Search, select the Advanced Search button to the right of the search bar.

The Advanced Search menu allows you to search in a more targeted, precise manner.

The default search is "Any Field" which will search for your keywords everywhere (title, journal name, subject headings, author name, etc.). If you would like to narrow that search, select the "Any Field" drop down menu and select one of the filters (such as title, author, ISBN).

You may utilize operators to combine keywords within Advanced Search by using the dropdown menus. Add additional lines, if necessary by selecting the + Add a New Line Link.

Example: This search looks for information sources on teen mental health that do not mention drugs. Note the phrase searching quotation marks used on "mental health" to keep those words together.

You may additionally limit the search by Material Type (books, journals, articles, videos, etc.), Language or Publication Date (enter start and/or end dates).

Select the Search link (with the green magnifying glass) to complete your search.
